Post subject:  DEER FOOD

I am not a deer hunter but walking a lot of woods turkey hunting and seeing no mass crop for the deer. The white oaks here did not produce and the reds did but finding the reds on the ground every one of them are rotten with worms. I see where the deer are eating browse, leaves and thorns already. There have been a handful of nice bucks taken here on Quantico along with some nice weights (does, bucks and fawns) But all the deer taken so far a high percentage of them have been shot on grass fields or along the edge of grass fields. Lots of deer sightings along the roads. I have yet, along with a few deer hunters have seen the first rub or scrape.
The willow pin oaks that have dropped are pretty much ate up. The beach that dropped are also ate as fast as they drop. Since the Q is basically hard mass for wild game it will be interesting to see how the deer pull through and hope its a mild winter.

Good hunting to all you deer hunters, I believe the muzzle loader season opens up Saturday.

Some whites up here are dropping pretty good. I have seen a bunch of reds dropping too. I have also seen deer eating a lot of grass but just figured that was to keep the acorns a moving in their GI track.
Starting to see a lot of chasing and even bucks with does locked down.
