http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?181+sum+HB995 There is absolutely no reason to require a tracking dog license, except to make someone with a tracking dog business special and to keep other hunters from using their dogs. This bill also makes a tracker with a license special because he can carry a "weapon" while the hunter that shot the animal cannot. This does not make sense except to make the tracker special (money maker). Almost any dog can be a tracking dog with little or no training. Almost every hunter has a dog that can be used for tracking wounded deer. Instead, let the hunter carry the weapon used to shoot the animal while tracking with a dog. |

Yep, money maker. Does not make sense. Especially the hunter not carrying a weapon. Maybe I misread or read too much into it. I will call tomorrow and get clarification. Thank goodness they did not include turkey dogs. I know a few turkeys over the years that may have gotten away without a dog after a wounding shot was taken in the fall seasons. Earl |

I think Texas as something similar to this but I'm not 100% positive. It does make it more difficult for anymore wanting to train their own dog and use their own dog to track their own deer. |
