Your typical 2year old. 21lbs, 9" beard, 3/4" spurs.
Got out about 6:00 started listening. About 10min later one gobbles half way across the cutover from a small group of hardwoods left by the loggers. I run to this little field to the side of the cutover that had no cover but one small brush pile. When I set up I sat down facing away from the gobbling birds hoping that if they ever made it to the field they'd see my decoy before they saw me. I settle in and the bird gobbles off and on all morning. About 6:45 a group of jakes gather up with the gobbler and start going crazy. At 7:15 the gobbles had gotten no closer and no further and I know there is a small stream the flows through the cutover so I figured they're hung up on the other side. So I turned and faced them and just cut and yelped as hard as I could for about 30 seconds none stop. Evidentally the group split and the mature gobbler(s) came across the creek up to my left and the jakes followed the creek down to my right. The birds were still gobbling good on their own so I decided to just sit tight and not call anymore. At 7:30 a crow flies over and I hear a gobble that sounded like the birds beek was in my ear!! I automatically click off the safety and 30secs later I see this black ball enter the field. 30yds, 835 w/Remington Nitro Turkey #6's in his forehead and the game was over. He had a buddy with him, another mature gobbler that was in half strut when I shot the other one. This sure takes the edge off and I am so thankful!!!!
