Another Gobbler down this morning 04/18/07 w/ pics!
Well I went to my land this morning only to find 25 mph winds. I could not find any birds. So I went in at 7:15 and slept until 8:45. Got dressed and headed to work. But when I got to my dad's mail box I noticed the wind had stopped. So I decided to get out and call a few times with my box call before giving up totally. 3 gobblers sounded off. I quickly got dressed again and took off. I set up on the closest two but they would not play. The other bird was on the other side of the mtn going crazy. So I ran back to my jeep and drove 200 yards and parked in the field. I ran up the hill to the logging road and called a few times with no luck. So I decided to walk about 100 yards further down the road and sit where I think I heard the gobbler. I sat down and did not even put a decoy out. I called afew times no response. So I sat there maybe ten minutes. Then I saw him come around the corner strutting. He hung up about 90 yards from me but I could see him good. Then another gobbler sounded off right behind the one strutting. I knew then he would come in now, he had competition. So I slowly turned my head and did a few soft yelps away from them. Thats all it took. He quit strutting and came right by me at 25 yards and I dropped him. He was 21 lbs 9 3/4 in brd and 1 ich spurs. The other bird looked to have about 12 ich brd but was 30 yards behind mine and I take the first oppertunity I get. I shot him at 10:00. Needless to say I was stoked. Any break in the weather is the best time
