Apr 20, got one for myself
A buddy and I went out 3rd day of season 9n APG. At daybreak we hear a bird across a swamp gobbling pretty good. we wait a little then start calling. he's responding to all we toss at him. All the sudden we hear yotes crying in his general direction. Soon my buddy sees one of the yotes near us but I don't see him. Anyway we keep playing with him for an hour and my bud even moves closer than does the walk away. He's double and triple gobbling but getting no closer and soon quits all together. We get together and discuss options. We're about to leave, have to go to work and a bird gobbles on a road not too far from where we last heard the earlier tom. Shortly he sounds closer and we're set up again. a few minutes later I see his white head bobbing behind a Bush. He's picking blooms or something off the Bush and I'm locked in on his head. I'm trying to raise as high as I can to see over the bush but still have an obstructed view. After about 15 seconds he starts reaching for the higher blooms and when he goes for a real high one I get my chance and cut it loose. he drops immediately. Pretty good bird, 20 lb,10.5" beard and spurs just over an inch. When I pulled the trigger all I could see was the top 6 inches of his head and neck. At 20 yds the tight choke did its job, thank goodness. V
