Stepping on Some More Neck in Bluemont
Well the bird I had hammering yesterday morning forgot to read the script and was 400 yds off the property and went silent after flydown. So, I started walkin’ n talkin’ hoping to strike a bird. Not one more gobble all morning and since I had to leave my house at 1030 for a Dr. appt. at 1100 I decided to cut the morning short at 0830 and started heading back to the truck.
Well, all hell started to break loose. I had a bird gobble ~60 yds away when I gave one last series of yelps. I jumped to the nearest tree and set up. Gave a couple yelps and he answered…as he headed away. Then I heard another bird respond near where I had been set up at sunrise. Moved on him and no response. Okay, I need to get going so I’m humping it up the mountain when another bird sounds off 100 yds away. I figure I got some time still and go after him. To cut a long story short, after almost an hour of us playing a game of cat n mouse, I get him into 30 yds and make the shot count. It’s 0954 and I make it home and to my appt w minutes to spare. Well worth the extra effort.
Nice bird: 19#, 10” thick beard, and 1” dull spurs

Well done. A great result. Beautiful bird.
