Anyone seeing the Hunters View climbing treestand at their area Walmart? It is going for $144.00 at my local store. They have a display up but have not gotten any in stock yet. I checked out Hunters View website and they have a aluminum and a steel version of the stand.

If you have a few more dollars to spend, I recommend Summit climbing treestands. I have a Summit Cobra climber and it is the easiest to use, most comfortable stand I have ever owned. You can check out their web site at summitstands.com. Just my 2 cents.

Ol' Man Treestands get my vote as being the best. It is way more comfortable than any other treestand I have. I have fallen asleep in it more than one time. :) It has the webbed sling seat and it fits to your bottom. It's awesome. Not sure what the price range is on them but here's the website...

My 2 cents too!

I know that there have been some safety recalls on the Hunter's View treestands last year. I was prepared to by one out of a Sportsman's Guide magazine until I ran across a recall notice on the web. I'm sure all treestands have issues from time to time, but the recall made me think and I didn't buy. They look like a great bargin, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I have an older entry level Warren Sweat climber that does the job but is a bit cramped. I've sat in an Ol' Man treestand and they are worth every penny, but considerably higher than the Hunter's view. If you want the granddaddy of them all, check out the TreeLounge. They are expensive but by far the most comfortable and portable stand I have ever used. I don't own one, but will definately be my next purchase.

I am looking for my first tree stand. Do you recomend trying to pick up a used one, or should I bite the bullett and spring for a brand new one?

I have several kinds of climbers and I agree with Va Hen on the Ol'Man.I also really love my API.It is very confortable but it takes a pack mule to get it in the woods and up a tree.Flatlander I have bought several used stands, and have always gotten good ones but I cant help but to always feel like it may be stolen.I have had so much stuff stolen from me in my life time that I guess I'm gun shy.Always buy new if you can afford it.Good Luck and Good Hunting.CottonTop!!!!!

o.k. i was right :) Natchez has the ol' man treestands on sale. The orignial ol' man is on sale for $139 and the Vision is on sale for $169. I've seen the Vision at Bass Pro's for about $250 so this is a pretty good sale. Here's thier link to the Ol' Man treestands, think they also have thier summits on sale. Scott

OK I see that most prefer the Old Man, but what about the API, the bowhunter is like $199 and looks good, anyone have one that can say how comfortable the API is. Any info appreciated.

I have climbed with API and it worked great just a bit bulky and somewhat hard to handle .When you get it on the tree it climbed realy well and is rock solid when you strap it on ..However when i went to get my own climber i bought and ol Man and have never looked back.Ive got the standered model i think that the Vision with the rail angled down would be best for bowhunting i sometimes feel limited by the wrap around bar on mine while sitting, its great to lean against when standing and tring to get that shot angle. As for hang ons there are a lot of good ones out there , i like sturdy but not fancy cause i like to pick a good spot and leave it there till gun season starts then i use my climber almost exclusively.I dont buy realy expensive hang ons cause i need several of them to cover my whole property. If you're looking for an inexpensive hang on stand, the Gorilla line of hang on's are rock solid on the tree. I have two of the baby kong's. They are steel and weigh about 17 lbs. Got em for $60.00 a piece last year.
