Hello, I'm new to turkey hunt and need all the help I can get! I went out this spring but I didn't get one. Hoping to this fall. I know the cackle,yelp,kee-kee run, lost yelp. I can't do the purr I've tried and I can't get it. How do I do it? And what other sounds do I need to know? When do I use them? I need as much info as I can't get so I get ready for the coming fall turkey season. Thank you Dan |

Welcome Dan. Like Knight says look through some of the old posts, and keep on checking in. It is kind of dull around here in the Summer, but it will pick up soon. About Feb or so it really gets busy. Also it would not hurt to join the NWTF and you will get a lot of info in magazines too. |

Another welcome aboard!! Until the fall seasons start up, things have slowed right down around here!! Get yourself some turkey hunting Video's, these will demonstrate how to sound with the calls and how to set-up as well. They are very informative, and a great starting point as well!! |

HI and Welcome, I too was new to Turkey Hunting this Spring. I also didn't kill one, but have met some great guys here that will answer a lot of your questions. I agree with maytom, get yourself some vedios to watch. There are some really good ones out there. Get out in the woods now and look for sign, try to find where they are living. Most of all BE PATIENT! It takes time.... Ron |

Dan, Would also like to welcome you to VaTurkey. The videos have helped me alot along with tapes or c.d.'s. Check out William Lovett's tapes, Primos Tapes or Knight & Hale tapes/c.d.s. All of these have live turkey talk on them and will help you a great deal. Midwest and Hunt Smart both carry all three of these sets if you can't them find locally. This site is great and you will learn a ton here, I sure have. Also check out the NWTF if you arn't a member. Their bi-monthly magazine is worth the $25 alone with all the valuable info... (not to mention the great work the NWTF does for the turkey and the hunters) Good luck to ya', Scott http://www.nwtf.com 1-800-THE-NWTF |
