How do you guys feel about predator hunting? I went for the first time this week and a familiar feeling came over me as the calling started. No luck, but did have two coyotes answer which intensified that familiar feeling. I was hunting in Giles County where a bounty of $50 still exists for coyotes. I imagine a lot of hunters will come down on either side of this issue. I tend to agree with the argument our state game managers are making. I would appreciate any opinions, experiences or tips for success. Have a great weekend!

BTW, saw 18 deer. Six bucks, two fawns and the rest were does. Amazing how many more you see when the pressure is off. No turkeys.

I just started predator hunting last year. Love it! Only problem is trying to find time and places to go. Hoping to head to Bland County in a week or two to try up there. It does feel alot like turkey hunting with the exception of the bobcat sneaking in on ya' or a bear :) Two great places to learn a ton of information are these two links....

http://www.cctrap.com/~varmint/ahunt.htm

The first link is to Bill's homepage, he hunt's yotes out in NM and provides some great info. The second link is to Varmint Al's and he also has a TON of info. Curious Big Bird, you using eletronic calls or mouth calls. I'm using a Circe call which I really like.

Scott, thanks for the info and links. I am using a home-made electronic call and tape. I hear the tapes for sale in Redhead catalog are really good and cheap so I may get one or two of those. Have you had any luck? Friend of mine shot a coyote(female) on a farm in SE Montgomery County over the weekend. He said two came in together, but he could only get a shot on one.

Told the wife that I really should get good at this since the bounty exists...I can pay for all of my toys with the reward (yeah, right). Whatever it takes I guess.

Wish Bland County still offered the reward. Giles & Bath are the only two that I know of right now still offering an award. I've yet to call in a yote but have called in foxes and even a bear. (be warned they come in to rabbit in distress calls, who knew? :) ) Went to Princeton today to see my Grandfather in the Hospital and Dad told me he saw three yotes the other night in Bland. Really hoping to try my luck up there in a week or two. My nephew was promised a yote hunt for this summer and I still have to deliver.. Scott

Stopped in to get a Johnny Stewart tape(yote pup distress) yesterday in Pembroke and saw the game warden. He said that 30 coyotes have been turned in this year in Giles. Mostly from the same guy. He mentioned that an area close to Mountain Lake has a large population. I am hunting about 4 miles from there so who knows. Email me if you are coming this way. Maybe we can get together.

Hope your Grandfather is doing better.

Tscott,
If you and your family need a place to stay while your grandfather is in Princeton, ya'll are more than welcome to stay with us. We're in Bluefield about 10 miles from Princeton. I'm serious, the door is open. We're in the process of moving. But a bed and shower is here.

Sixshot,
Thanks man! My parents still live in Bland and I have a good bit of family in Bluefield & Princeton. Andrea and I are going Saturday morning when I get off work and will proably stay over in Bland so we can catch up with the sister's family. Right now the situation doesn't look very good, just hope I can make it back up there before it's too late. Thanks for the offer I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope for the best, bud. Take care. Maybe me, you and Bigbird can do a little varmint hunting soon. How old is your nephew? My son is eight, almost nine. Maybe we can hook up.
