Hey sixshot,

Just wanted to see how you were getting along on SML. I have been out a couple of times at night on Claytor and caught some mean hybrids on topwater, but have not been to SML in a while.

Knight, have you done any good with the cats on the James? I floated the head of the James over the 4th and caught some good smallmouth and lost a musky(he stole my $20 lure). I am including a picture of the bandito as he was swimming away. Sorry no scale but he was approximately 45 inches of bad mood.

I think I see him down in there....they are pure predator aren't they. I was standing in one of my tailwater trout streams below a tenn dam a little while ago, just fishing away with 6x leader to a 15 inch trout with a size 20 fly, and I looked down to my side as I felt something brush against me and the left side of the river moved. A striper of at least 50 pounds was just finning there in reach if I had the urge to grab him. I felt my gear was realy not adequate, although i did think that a hooked trout might be a real enticer to him/her. I have seen these stripers explode on the trout before . They come flying out of the water like torpedoes , and I guess I would too if that bucket mouth-thing was after me.

Bigbird,
Hey great picture!! We've been fishing quite alot at the lake lately. All June we we're catching a limit on most nights. Me and my family was on vacation the week of the 4th and fishing on topwater has really slowed down (surface temp was 85-87 degrees). But we did manage to catch a few. Really funny story, the kids we're at camp and me and the mrs. fished every night Mon and Tues., well she was in the back of the boat with her feet on the motor and sawing logs! She had a redfin out 20 ft. and just trolling while I worked the trolling motor. All of a sudden "BOOSH!!!", followed by "HELP!!, I think I'm hung up!" . After 5 minutes her "hang-up" was a 26 incher and around 11-12 lbs. She was so tore up and shaking so hard, hilarious!
Everybody lately have been trolling deep divers, and downlining shad. No big ones I've heard of lately. We've been fishing the dam, and Christmas tree island lately.
Sounds like your having a ball! We need to get together and wet a line. Good to hear from ya! Shoot me a E-mail and we'll plan something, o.k.?

Hey Bird

I have only made it to the James for Mr. Whiskers once this year (been way to busy)....We didnt get a single hit all night...BUT the summer ain't over!!... those Musky are bad news for anything short of steel leaders & 7ft rods with baitcasting reels......gear getters we call them when we run into them while cating.....cause after u hook only u need new gear...LOL... keep after them & good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
