Saw quite a few flocks of hens and poults over the last week. Ranging is size from really small (a week or so old) to as big as a chicken (already flying and roosting in bushes/low branches). Looks like a good hatch in our area so far. I haven't gotten around to talk to most of the farmers in the area but the ones I have spoken with are seeing them frequently. Should be a good fall and Spring of '04 :)

Saw two hens with a total of twelve poults. They were about ten inches tall. The hens led them to a berry patch and the poults were loving it. Funny to watch them jumping up to grab the berries.

OK GN I have a special category for you to award. I saw two different flocks of poults today. The one however included a totally white (albino) and I think there was a possible smoke colored one also. I have pics to prove it. I will post when I get off vacation. It was pretty exciting. The wife thought I was crazy as I hurridly pulled off the road to get a picture.

Hody where did you see the white poult?I have been hunting a long time and haven't ever saw one,it is suppose to be a white gobbler around here(Henry County Area)but I haven't seen it.It's lots of poults popping up everywhere.I believe the hot/dry weather must have been good for the hatch.

Haven't seen any or heard of many in SWVa. I hope that hard freeze didn't get them all.

OK Here is the pic I promised. Not great, but you can tell what it is. This is my first actual sighting of a white poult. Not sure if the other is a smoke or not, but it sure was different from the others. mypicture

Well, I have posted some lousy pictures on here before so I cannot throw rocks, so to speak. I have no idea what Hody has captured here , despite his honorable intentions. So we will have to take his word on it. BTW, driving to Ky this am in the early am fog I went by two mature toms picking in the grass on the interstate 20 feet from 70 mph + traffic...go figure..and they can hear a twig break in the spring? These two should be deaf from road noise or at least impaired enough to file some kind of disabliity claim agst TWRA.

I guess that is the new rainbow strain of turkeys, with all the different colors. Congratulations Tim. You were lucky to see that flock. And imagine that. You even had a camera!

Hey Hody,
Are you sure that white thing isn't the end of a gigantic J-hook dropping? Grow 'em big down there, huh? HaHa!

p.s.
What kind of gun ya'll use for those gobblers?

Saw 2 hens and 15 poults on the way to work this morning. They were in an alfalfa field on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I guess they really know where to stay and play it safe. :)
