Young friend bought a NEF single shot. Had a gunsmith put on metal sites. Gunsmith drilled the rear site tap screw holes all the way in to the barrelchamber(through the wall of the barrel) (two screws)...this is about a foot in front of yopur face position ion the gun..young friend is worried the gun will blow up or blow sights out of the barrel and in to his eyes? I have never seen the tapholes go all the way throug hthe barrel before. ANy gunsmith types (or others with good information)have an answer to his concerns?

You can try this. I saw on a tv show put the gun on a table outside (ofcourse) and fix the gun so it is stable with sand bags etc. tie a long string to the trigger and run it about 20 or so feet get behind something and pull if it does blow no one is hurt if not it is safe to assume it will work fine. the guy on the show was trying a gun he redid from a 7mm to a 308 or something. It sounds crazy but should work.

DO NOT SHOOT THE GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take it to the smith that drilled & tapped it & make him replace the gun!!!!.....There is no way I would even consider fireing that gun if the screws are showing thru into the barrel or chamber.... I shoot & tinker with firearms a fair amount..... There is pressure created in the chamber when the primer ignites the powder...smokless powder donest explode,it burns very fast & builds high presures.. high enough to push the bullet or shot load out of the barrel at very fast speeds... that very same pressure could blow those screws out sending them God knows where..into God knows what.

Not an expert by any means, but I would not shoot it either. Even if it does not blow the sights off the first time, it may work them off after several shots because there is alot of pressure in that barrel. I agree, the guy that did it should fix it, or replace it!!!!! Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't shoot it either. Lucky though that you can replace a NEF/H&R Barrel rather cheaply.. I'd make the gunsmith pay for it. Tell your friend to check this link...

http://www.hr1871.com/

on the top menu you will see a title called, "barrel accersories", click on there and it will give you the information to order a new barrel for your gun, it will have to be shipped to NEF/H&R.

I just don't like the idea of shooting that gun.. sounds too risky to me.

GN, I know everyone makes mistakes, but it might be time to replace the Gunsmith.

YEAPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with Hody......I shoot & do alot of reloading....mount scopes ...do trigger jobs sometimes & a few other types of easy stuff..........any smith worth his salt knows way better than that.. If he did that to my gun.. I would noteven let him fix my Red Rider..LOL....Later Folks..God Bless
