Freddy, I have know you for a long time and I knew you hunted back in the day. My question is how long have you hunted. Why you got started (like who mentored you) and how may turkey have you taken? The reason I am asking this is out of couriosity. Some guys at work saw all of your tropies and where amazed I told them that I have know you since grade school but was not sure how long you hunted. I think I told them about 15 or so years forgive me if I am wrong. Thanks for the nice web site I will try to send you some help, when I can. I do know how hard is is to keep up a site and it can be very hard at times. As this is part of my job computers, networks internet. A big fustration at times. You and Amy keep up the good work. Peace and God Bless

Hey Jon... I have turkey hunted since I was 12 years old... so that would make it 17 years. I killed my first bird by myself, a hen in the fall, when I was 14 and took my first spring gobbler the following spring on Friday the 13th. My next door neighbor Teddy, got me started turkey hunting and taught me a lot. I have had the pleasure of calling up several birds for him in the last several years to return the favor!

As far as the number of birds I've taken I will just say I've taken somewhere around 40 gobblers and a few hens hunting in 5 different states... and I have loved every minute of it!

Freddy and Friday the 13th. Sounds creepy. Maybe I don't really want to hunt with you after all. Do you have a camo hockey mask instead of a face net? haha, just kidding Freddy. I also bagged my first bird at 14, a jake..pure tee luck. The following year I took my first big bird, and I've been fortunate to have bagged at least one mature bird every year since. I've cut it close several years though, including this season, only tagging one bird. I've never come so close to a dry season as this year, yet with a few breaks here and there I could have easily tagged 3 or 4 birds. That's turkey hunting I suppose. I don't have a clue how many birds I've bagged. My hero, my Dad introduced me to the sport. I'll never forget that first gobble, as he answered Dad's tree-shaking hoot. My first priority each year is to get Dad a bird. He prefers to hunt alone, so I give him my best scouting report each year. I've been chasing turkeys for 26 years and a lot about turkey hunting has changed, except for one thing...I still love it with a passion!!

My dads uncle Major Hundley got me addicted to the spor. I guess I was areounf 13 or 14. We would go over there and I would listen to his stories about his hunts. He had a chalk board beside his front door that had a T and a D on it. The D is for Deer and the T is for Turkey last I checked it had 48 Deer and 101 turkey. He does not hunt much now because of age I guess in his upper 70's. If any one who reads this hunts around philpott lake you may know old Major. That is where he hunts alot.

Good one TP... :)

Mr. Longbeard... I have only taken a few birds on public land... I am fortunate to still have permission to hunt some decent private land.

Probably 95% of the birds I've taken were on public land. It's tough, and gets tougher every year with increased hunting pressure, but if you're willing to pick 'em up and put 'em down you can beat the pressure. Public or private, a wild turkey is a wild turkey. No easy outs regardless.
