Many of you post that you read this board all the time, every day. Only a very few have put your money where your mouth is. Less than a handful have bothered to send Freddy any kind of a donation to keep the board up and on-going. He is going out of pocket on his own to keep this up. This is not a profit -making venture to start with but it should not be costing Freddy anything to keep it up and we (read YOU)should support him. I may make some of you mad. SO what ? I asked in a nice way and only a few responded. You think he can do this for laughs? If you do not care enough about helping Freddy here with the expenses, to send even what you would spend on a cheeseburger ,to support this then I could care less what you think. I don't think it would hurt us to shell out a little. Truthfully that is all I sent, but I was banking on others doing the same

I plan on doing the same as Max as well. Listen , this board has a special pocket in my vest just like a favorite call. I rely on this board for good info and I'm not worrying about being run down the road for a mistake. If you handed Wally-World 20 bucks for a new call, what's the difference?

I think the difference would be that I ordered that call.....I don't remember being asked if I wanted a bulletin board to read and post on!! However...it is a great cause.

Witheld has it right. Why pay when it is free.Is America a great country or what? Here I get this free
advice on how to kill turkeys from people who apparently actually DO know how to kill turkeys and I
dont have to do anything except sit there with my eyes open and punch up
vaturkey.com and get spoonfed enough inside info to be a threat to any
huntable turkey in the eastern US, and all I gotta do is just fill up on
it and then go digest it and then suck up again and just go back and digest
it . And it ain't no cost to me. And I am entitled to it. Let ol Freddy pick up the tab. It's all about free lunch , right. I love the internet.

Freddie has all the sympathy I can muster...
I wish more folks would consider what it takes to run one of these babies, and what you put up with because of it...

I can tell that you love the internet. Cowards like to talk ignorance while remaining face free. You can reply to me if you want but I've said enough. Or.....I believe you have.

Before this get headed in the wrong direction, let's think a little bit. For those coming to the cookout, it would be a great opportunity to put a little in the kitty for the website upkeep. For the rest, maybe a VATURKEY hat or shirt that could be purchased for an obviously inflated price might work ($5 hat for $30)? How about some ideas other than having sponsors. Might help to know how much is needed too, just a ballpark. It would surprise a lot of people to see how much it costs for quality of this nature. My 2 cents (will pony up a little more at the cookout):)

Look at this stuff this way, if you would consider listening to me one more time. A comparable cost is to,for example, a magazine subscription that costs $10-15/yr. This magazine here come out 24/7/365. If Freddy sells ads he has taxable income and a business and he does not want to be in this as a business(so far). If people send him small gifts it is not taxable o him and he has no tax issues and he just gets small no-obligation gifts as a gesture of apprectiation. If he gets $500 yr in gifts he would still not receive value equivalent to what he has done for all of us , again in my view, as far as entertainement and enjoyment is concerned. If you asked me the time he has spent on this so far is a lot more than 50 hours/@$10 hr value. Thus far he is not getting $100 in total, forever ,since inception. I would hate to see this go on to a point where Freddy just says I am not going to spend my time on this because it is expensive and costs money to upgrade and monitor and so I am just going to shut it down. Or go the other way and sell the site to somebody so they can sell our names and addresses to junk mailers or cover us up with advertising.Freddy has not asked me to say any of this. To several of us it appears to be obvious that we need to do our part here, if we want this to stay as it is. No sarcasm is needed. No getting mad and name calling. Just a fact of life. I will not post on this subject again. 2 cents.

OK I was gonna stay out of this, but I cant. First of all lets all grow up a bit. The one thing this site has been is a FRIENDLY forum, and I will do what I have to to help keep it that way. This nonsense of name calling and badgering has to stop or the site will be ruined. I dont know how many folks read this site, but I expect a lot. If you dont want to pay anything that is fine, just undersatnd that this site costs money to upkeep and if you would like to continue to read it or post on it, you should consider sending some money, even if it is only a little. GN is correct in the fact that a magazine would cost around $15 dollars per year. There is no where else that I know of that has better info than right here. I look at it as this like America, if you enjoy your freedom you must fight for it....well if you enjoy this board then help a little by paying for it. My 2 cents and believe me I was not asked to write this, but I am fighting to keep this baord and so should you!!!!

Okay... I have stayed out of these posts for obvious reasons but I'm going to say a few things here and this will be the last of it...

First, thanks to those of you who have sent something and those of you who have said you are making a contribution at the cookout, you know who you are and I really appreciate the help. I knew each of you as posters and now I know each of you as a friend.

Second, I started this board on the encouragement of a friend and my love for turkeys, turkey hunting, and sharing information with other hunters... no other reason and certainly not to make money. People have no idea what it takes to keep a site up and running, not only financially but in manpower... I certainly didn't...

Third, it takes time and money to run this thing. There is a fee for server space (which goes up as the amount of traffic does) and for domain registration. I have monthly access fees and have to review logs to see traffice and watch for folks stealing sounds and pictures from the site. And it must tbe checked several times a day to be sure it is up and running correctly. And I have to help GN and others post all their pictures! ;o) I have spent a fair amount of money since getting this thing started. Am I whining about it? No, just stating the facts. I have not asked anyone for money, but every bit does help.

Fourth, I do not have any advertising on the site. Why? I don't have the time to try and get advertising and most importantly I don't have time to maintain the ads and changes to them on a regular basis. Amy and I work full time jobs that does not have anything to do with turkey hunting... believe it or not! ;o)

Fifth, I love the forum and think of most of the posters as friends. I have met a lot of you and have hunted with some of you. We have a great group of folks posting here and very rarely do we have a post that gets out of hand (this may be the closest to getting out of hand that we've had!) As you know I will delete anything I do not think is good-mannered or family friendly.

Sixth, Many of the things on the the Internet is free... that's what everyone thinks and it is free to look at. I have kept the forum open and do not require registration so that people can post as they wish and not have to worry about me selling their name to one of the million companies that send you junk mail. I could go with a cheaper domain and let you guys have slow posting and fight pop-up ads and other harassing things but I don't want that and neither do you.

Seventh, I told a friend about the cost of the site going up back during February because of the amount of hits we were generating. He made a post
and asked me not to delete it. He was doing this to help me out. Thanks!

Eighth, There is a lot of good information on this board. A lot of the information is provided by the posters. Some of the posters here are telling you things about strategies and so on that you could not usually drag or beat out of an old-time successful turkey hunter at any cost. You can read on the other message boards about people who are highly succesful hunters, but trust me when I say there are posters on vaturkey.com who are as good/better at this as anybody anywhere. What's that information worth? I have no idea, but I know what it costs...

If you want to send something it is certainly appreciated, if you don't that's okay too...

Well folks all I have to say in response to Freddy's post is, if you did not understand what it takes to upkeep the board before, you should honestly know now. Like I said before, and GN also stated, this is better than any magazine, and I get several. This is the TRUTH(as close as can be expected anyway) about the sport. I know lots of folks on this board, and have also hunted with some. It is a great group and I hope to keep it. So please consider all of this as you sign your name on a check and send it or bring it to the cookout. In my opinion Turkey Hunters are a special breed, and we need to stick together. Just my 2 cents and then some.

Hello to all. My name is Tim and I'm from Chesapeake VA. I just found this site and think it's great. I'm a member of the NWTF Tidewater Chapter. I work on the Banquet Commitee and have for the last five years. I have been hunting turkeys for the last six years and I'm very excited to tell yall that on 4-26-02 at 10:30am I took my first bird in the Williamsburg area. A nice 18.5 lbs. 11 1/4 beard and 1 1/4 spurs. The past two years I have let two jakes go on by and some of my buddy were telling me I should have taken them, I just would not do it . My waiting pay off big time . Nice meeting yall and I will be in here agian soon. Tim.

Let me add a little to this... At least Freddie has some folks who are trying to help.
I have been attempting to stay alive on the sites I run by soliciting ads. You would not believe how hard it is to convince corporations to invest in a site like this...
Selling hats, stickers, and such has not produced enough profit to make a difference either.
Finally after giving subtle hints to a few folks with no results, I have resorted to asking for some help. Freddie, I am sure, would rather see it come in voluntarily too. I hope that the folks who visit his site will understand that he is truly telling it like it is...
You cannot imagine, unless you have tried this, the time and expense involved.
I posted on the MsDeer site what I found one morning when I opened one of my favorite sites and found it was no longer there... He finally had to shut it down as more and more folks started visiting the site, and his bill from the host went through the roof....
Nothing in this world is free... Please consider supporting these types of sites, and also joining the organizations which contribute to hunting.
It is a small price to pay to see them continue...
Good Luck Freddie, and thanks to all who have supported our sites....
