Since today was the last day, I just had to go... weather or not. I slept in the truck until the rain ended and hit the woods at 8:00am.

Due to a bum hip I've had to change my style of hunting this year & I've learned a great deal.

I made the short walk to the same blind I've hunted exclusively the last several weeks and got comfortable. The wind was rockin & rollin and I called about once every 30 minutes when the wind would lighten.

At 10:30am I decided I would try walking some & stood to put my vest back together. Crows began calling near the 1 acre field 200 yds below me & the first gobble of the morning responded to them from the field.

I sat back down, set up and yelped to him loudly on my box call. Two minutes later I called to him again and he gobbled back. I immediately answered him and then remained silent until I saw him strutting at the edge of the field below me.

I yelped to him once more on the box to be certain he could locate me with all of the wind. He began working my way - strutting occasionally.

When he paused to strut on the logging road 60 yds below me, I clucked lightly on a mouth call when he turned his fan away from me and showed me the old Texas heart shot. That sealed it & he came on in. I took him at 30 yds. A hen flew off at the shot. I was so intent on him, I hadn't even noticed her!

17 1/2 lbs
10 inch beard
1 1/8 inch spurs

My second bird and an awesome finish to the season.

Hope everyone had a safe and productive season.

Thanks, Freddy, for a great website.
