It's been an awesome spring season with lots of the usual stuff but if you spend enough time in the woods you're gonna see some bizarre things.

Have you ever seen a ONE-LEGGED GOBBLER?

He was otherwise healthy in appearance with a 6 inch beard. He was with a hen when they approached my blind. While he couldn't stand erect on that one leg (at least while feeding uphill), he made his way around slowly but steadily while feeding. One thing's for sure, he can fly just fine. He demonstrated that when he finally figured out something wasn't just right.

I figure someone must have shot his leg off last year. I can't imagine any other explanation.

What's your most bizarre sighting or experience this spring??

I have indeed seen a one-legged gobbler on my brothers land. He is a monster bird too.. Many people have tried to take him and he ends up taking them. Funny to watch him feed it makes you feel bad but he survives.

I wish I would have taken a picture of the bird I killed many years ago in Mississippi. His right leg was nothing but a nub right at the bottom of the drumstick...
That rascal looked mighty peculiar hopping around everywhere and trying to scratch, but he was fat and gobbling just before I shot...
Animals have the capacity to survive wounds that would do a human being in... I never knew what had caused this bird to lose one leg, but he had been around for at least two years that I knew of before I killed him...

I have seen a one-legged hen near my Mom and Dad's for several years now and saw a gobbler with an injured leg several times one fall... interesting... Wonder what he would do if he actually found a hen to breed... that's got to be hard on 1 foot! :)

Well I started not to post this, but what the heck, several years ago when I was just a youngster my dad shot a gobbler in Deer season (not legal in our home state) but it was because of the shape of the bird. It appeared that a week or so before he shot it someone attempted to shoot it with a rifle and shot both feet off. It had 2 nubs and was having a very hard time getting around. It could not scratch for food and would have probably died from the winter we had anyway. Dad put it out of its misery. I recall looking at the bird, and one of the feet was still attached, barely and the weight of the bird was very low from not eating.
