I hadn't heard a gobble in 3 days. This morning looked to be the same, but way off in the distance I heard what I thought was a gobble. With nothing better to play with I headed in that direction. Once I got in what I thought was the general area I set up and called sparingly every fifteen minutes. About an hour and a half into the hunt a bird gobbled 200 yards off to my left. Don't know if it was the earlier bird, but at least it would keep me sitting a while longer. Twenty minutes passed and the next gobble came at thirty five yards. The bird had slipped in on me and after he gobbled he stepped behind a tree, I got my gun up and let him have it when he stepped out from behind the tree. Not the most exciting hunt, but better than the last few days no doubt. He was 17.6 lbs, 10 inch beard, and 7/8 inch spurs.
