Things finally came together for me this morning at about 6:30 a.m. I killed a 15.7 lbs, 10 3/4 inch beard, and 1 inch spurred gobbler. Not heavy, but not bad for a swamp gobbler. It was the first time that I have been able to get on a gobbling turkey at my hunt club where I knew the lay of the land he was using and had some idea of where he might go. I think it is always easier to call them when you are in a spot they are comfortable traveling. This was an area that had three misses in it during the first few days, so these birds gobble, but generally shut down when they hear any yelping hen or by a man. I got to about 100 yards and clucked at him a couple of times. He gobbled only a few times in the tree. He hit the ground and strutted and gobbled for about 10 minutes at that spot probably only gobbling 4 times. I purred and clucked at him one time, and he gobbled at me. He cut the distance gobbling one time on his way to find the hen. Finally, when he appeared in front of me he was wondering where the hen was so he let out about 4 more gobbles before I decided to end his season at twenty yards exactly. I always say knowledge of the land is the most useful tool in turkey hunting, and though it doesn't always prove true I will attest that not knowing my land combined with call shy birds has made my season difficult. Through trial and error I have slowly learned a spot here and there and hopefully the last few days will have some of what today had.

Great hunt Ryan. Hey the weight in my opinion does not mean much this time of year. Nice beard and spurs.
