Well I'm in Bland County and just got in from a hunt with Dad. Located one on the roost first thing this morning with a crow call and set up about 100 yards away while he was still up in the tree. Gave him a tree yelp and he loved it!!! Gobbled his head off. When he flew down I gave a few scratches and some cutts and here he came.... about fifty yards out in full strut two deer come running up and go right by him.. he comes out of the strut for a second and gets back in it and heads our way. He stops at about 30 yards and hides behind a tree .... peaking around it every now and then looking for the "hen". (should have put a decoy out) Finally he steps out from behind the tree and Dad shot and missed. We had a great hunt and the bird got lucky... maybe in the morning... P.S. Sixshot... no gobbling heard on Brushy |

Scott, Glad to hear ya'll are working them. Seems that the birds are gobbling and working better this week. What are you doing on the last weekend of the season? We should hook up down here in Tazewell county. Just a thought. |

Sixshot..... I'll try and let you know... don't know if I can swing a weekend hunt but will try. Never really got to hunt brushy these last two days instead hunted the mountain to the west... We had five gobblers fired up this morning but they had hens and were not interested.. Paul, thanks! I hope so... have had two VERY nice gobblers within fourty yards this year and I havn't fired a shot Freddy, might give Ft. Lewis a try in the morning....cross your fingers ;-) Scott |
