I may be comming to a National Forest near you! One of the gentelmen I work with is taking me to, I think, George Washington National Forest this Saturday. He said it was below Staunton. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where would be a good place in the Park to hunt Turkey? Any help would be appreciated. Do I need any special license to hunt there? If so do you know where I can aquire one? We will travel up Friday night, sleep a little, hunt in the AM then return to Hampton that afternoon. I can hardly wait. See you in the woods.

Ron,

The only thing you'll need other than your license and big game stamp, is a national forest stamp. That will run you $3.50 and can be purchased anywhere they sell VA hunting licenses.

A good place to start would be west of staunton on route 42. After passing the small town of Buffalo Gap, you'll have the Little North Mountain WMA to your left, and the GW national forest on your right. More country than you could possibly cover in 10 seasons...much less a day. Good luck!

I went, I saw, I didn't get! I walked the trails of George Washington National. I heard none! I flushed one from the roost at would you believe 10:00! He took flight and was over some other tall trees before I could lift my gun! Had a great time, walked about 3 miles all together and spent some time getting to know a fellow hunter. I just have one quwstion; "DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS"?
