Friend had a rough season. told him we would go at daylight if it was not raining too hard,if raining wait for my call. I would call him.Raining hard early and turned off alarm. rolled over, back to sleep. woke up well after daylight, still raining...got up, get friend, go to mcdonalds for big brakfast. drive to spot with good fields. sit in car for 30 minutes and eat. get out of car when rain slacks. Walk 1/2 mileback in to fields. stay hidden in woods until we get to high place in back of field. Peek out in the field. See gobbler in fullstrut but with two hens in same area. Get under edge of rise in the field and, out of sight of birds i nthe field, crawl out with decoy -placehen 20 yds in to field. Crawl back(out ofsight) to where I can see him 150 yds out there--- call on slate at 9:30. He runs head up and stares for 5 minutes. Then walks over enough to see decoy and then struts, dances in to 20 yds. Down at 9:40. 11.5 beard...18.5 lbs--spurs less than an inchbarely..2 yr old I guess. This is MAy. It was raining . This is what is supposed to happen in fields. But you still sort of can't believe it when it does fall together like it is supposed to.What a season. Pretty fired up friend.(freddy may post picture later).

Well, you won't have to listen to any more of these stories for a while wb1...I cleaned out the truck this afternoon. Called it off. Been a great year and I am thankful to be able to get through another season without injury or serious problems. Our tradition of southern mountain turkey hunting is a real treasure and it is a privilige to be able to participate in the show as the woods come alive and the turkeys plan for another year . I have enjoyed sharing the season with you folks too.
