Did not have much time to hunt before work, but gave it a good hour and 1/2. The birds did not get active until the last 1/2 hour as it was really foggy at dawn. I sat down in a good looking spot back from the ridge edge about 25 yards. My setup was facing ESE. I am not there five minutes and had only called once on box when I hear a putt behind me, then wings. I turn to see a nice gobbler gaining altitude and flying away from me. He never made a sound and the leaves were wet. He also marched directly into the rising sun which really amazed me. I was really disgusted that I was not more alert and more still. I think he must have seen my head turn. On the positive side, I hunted a new area and really like what I saw. |
