the 1st week me and my 2 partners killed 4 in 6 days and should of had 2 more. last week the action seemed to all but stop. today they were gobblin but not a whole lot. the toms and jakes we seen were with hens and we couldnt quite pull em in close enough. has any one else noticed the the lull last week or is just where im huntin?

Today was a great morning, and I did hear a gobbler, but only one. I would like to think the action will pick up! Last week was pretty slow, especially last Friday for me.

I went out this am and heard 7 different gobblers. I let four jakes walk right by me at 3 yards. I wanted the long beard that hung out around 60 yards. A couple of hens came through and took him away. There is always tomorrow

hunted hard all weekend in WV. Soaked, frozen, toasted, then frozen again, din't hear a single gobble. Located a well-used strutting ground---hell I saw a bunch of birds in there Sunday when the sun was out. Strutting, not gobbling. Managed to call a jake in not too far, then flat missed him at 12:59. He proceeds to fly right over my head, a really easy shot. Jam. Wasted the rest of that box of shells trying to sort out what happened but could not replicate the problem. Returned Monday---even bought another deke, a struttin jake to really haul em in, but of course the weather was not cooperating.
What DO they do when it's blowing that hard?
Abandoned one area I know holds birds as the only decent access to it takes you right past two hens on the nest. Hate to make em get up and leave the eggs when it's storming out, or anytime for that matter.

It's picking up in Rockbridge Co. for sure. I've hunted the Little North Mountain WMA all season and heard almost no gobbling until this tuesday. Set up within 75 yards of a bird that let me have it on the roost for 20 minutes following one run of tree yelps, over 50 gobbles. Couldn't seal the deal, but I'll be back for him.
