My five year old and i hit the woods at 5 oclock yesterday. After a somewhat scary [ her words ] walk thru the woods we came to the edge of the field i wanted to hunt . I knew birds were there but i didnt know which side of the river they wood be on,sure enough at the first gobble i learned that i was on the wrong side.Man i got to get a conoe. We had a great time though calling to the fired up gobblers in about thrity min we heard about 50 gobbles from three different birds i was hoping one would come across that river .I let my little girl stroke my box call like she had been practicing and she made three very real sounding yelps the brought an booming gobble from one of the birds .The look on her little face as she said Dadddy i did it ,i did it i made that turkey gobbler,i was so proud .She was a ;ittle dissapointed when he didnt come running in l;ike on a video.
We spent the rest of the day moving thru the swamps slowly trying to strike a bird, i learned later the place had been hunted hard the previouse week
Right at 11;0clock we saw a hen at the edge of an old pasture so we set up close buy but she had no gobbler w/ her it was fun to watch the ole girl picking around and my daughter realt thought she was pretty shineing in the sun,we tried to take pictures but she wouldnt come close enough.
All in all it was one of my best days in the woods ever. Thanks Janice!! JMF

DJ- When I took my son on his first turkey hunt he killed one ten minutes out of the truck and decided this stuff was not as hard as it had been described..haha...then a few yeards later he kiled on e on his own. your daughtewr got a bird to answer her, and it took me about ten years (it seemed) to get the first one to answer me. So she beat me hands down. I think with a teacher like you she will be a great huntress one day. It will be a more difficult task to get her up and in the field in the teenage years though...at least it was for my kids.Good luck to you Janice.
