Well I did it! I went out for a day of hunting. First time since I was a teen, I won't say how long ago that was! I was in the Chicahominy WMA just before sun-up. I went to the spot a kind man told me he had seen 20 to 25 birds the week before opening day. I GOT SKUNKED !!! I tried all my new calls, I practiced all my new technices, but NOTHING !!! I didn't feel too bad wnen I talked to ten other guys coming out of the woods in various locations around the WMA. Out of the ten, only two guys, hunting together, said they even heard a bird, and they could have been lying! No no, I know a Turkey hunter wouldn't lie! Point is good, bad, or indefirent, I went out there, on my own, and was ready to take ol Tom Turkey on! Rather proud of myself! Well, wish me luck on my next trip out, as I do for all of you. Ron, congrat's on your first turkey hunt! Wish you the best for the rest of the season. I just love getting out and watching the sunrise, the owls hoot, the whipperwhils, and hopefully a gobbler  can't wait to Monday when I get another chance at Mr. Longbeard.... |
