To answer a few of your questions........: I live in Montgomery Co. about 45 min. east of Charlotte.
How has the hunting been down here this year ???? Well Scott, since you asked !! :-). Ill give you the condensed version of whats happened over the first week. Our season opens same as VA. Openening morning (13th) went after a bird I had been listening to during pre-season scouting that was in one of my favorite spots in a river bottom. Got lucky enough to get to within 75 yrds. of his roost and set-up between him and his hens. When he hit the ground he was only 20 yrds from me in `da wide open.... The `ole "River Hole Baron" took a ride in the truck !!!:-). 10 3/4" beard--1 3/8" spurs--22#. Monday, tuesday and wed. didnt hear a Gobble after they hit the ground. They were pretty henned up week before season opener, acually they are right on schedule as far as breeding cycle goes. From what I have been reading in here you guys are there now!! I am expecting things to really pick-up here in the next few days ! Thursday hunted with a buddy and had one awesome hunt! Had 6 Gobblers coming in at the same time that morning! 2 came on in to the gun several min. apart but presented no shot for my buddy...unbeleivable!!One of the most awesome hunts I have been on and never fired a shot !! Anyway, later that morning had another bird coming in on a string only to have another hunter mess that one up. Friday, the hens won the game !! Saturday competed with hunters on adjacent property calling to our birds. Every time we had them coming in those other guys would go into a mad yelping frenzy with some of the worst noise you have ever heard and the birds would freeze!! This went on all a.m.. This a.m. went back to the River Hole and the `ole boy was on the wrong side of the river. Going with my buddy again in the morning!!!!!:-) Good Luck and be safe!
GOD Bless,
Chris
