Has anyone hunted the CF Phelps or the GR Thompson WMA? I was just wondering how the hunting was. I live in D.C. and have hunted a few times down near Charlottesville, and was looking for something a little closer. Thanks. |

Have hunted both and there are more guys than turkeys. The other problem is the guys call more than the turkeys and they are using the calls they bought five minutes earlier at Walmart in Warrenton. There are birds there but they are better educated than a professor at Yale. |

I've hunted both and concur with Piedmont Gobbler that you'll run into more hunters than turkeys...problem is, I don't know where else to go. I"m from DC area as well. Anybody got some good advice for a better spot for me and Beee94 to try? |

Thanks for the update. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I guess I will have to try and find another place. Like HickoryHawg asked, if anyone knows of a place close to D.C., please let us know! |

You could always try the GW National Forrest which is just a little further than GR Thompson. It may be just as croweded as the WMA's, but there are some two track roads that may allow you get away from the crowds if you're willing to hike. |

Oops, I meant to add try the Elizabeth's Furnace area near Strausberg. I've mountain biked in the area and have seen turkeys. |
