Set out my true position decoys before light on a popular struting ground and waited in silence until the first bird showed up i never heard a yelp or a gobble all morn.Then first one jake then two more until there were six they all saw my set up at the same time they ran 100yds across open field trying to shoulder each other out of the way to be first at the decoys.The completely surrounded the set up purring and clucking ,they might have had 12 inches of beard between them,then they spooked off for some reason.Saw one more jake about an hour later he split the scean when a hawk swooped at him.I sure hope i dont regreat not taking one of those jakes when the last sat rolls around and i still have a tag in pocket JMF |
