Well you folks know the saying. Friday I was able to pattern a nice bird (actually 2) as I got him in close around 9:30 he would not close closer than 70 yds. Then had to get to work(had a half day of vac)So I set up Saturday in a spot after roosting him Fri eve. It was all good and it turned out to be two longbeards that came to my set-up. Saw them coming at about 80 yards and one had about a 9 in beard the other was dragging the ground about 11 in. They came at me and then below me at 60 or so yards, strutting spitting and gobbling their heads off. I had a jake and a hen decoy out and they totally ignored it. Had the bead on the big one but held off because of the distance. They never came any closer and finally wet off with a real hen and I kept tabs on them until about 8 when the logging equipment started close to me. I have done it again and taken it personal. Cant wait to get back after him and get even closer so I can close the deal on this limbhanger. Never had a longbeard totally ignore my jake decoy like that before. Especially since I heard a good fight on Friday.

Tim I had the same thing happen on an evening hunt. Two hens and a jake decoy, two live hens in the small field and big boy shows up. He stared at the decoys, but would not leave the live hens.I'll bet you get him.

Hody. Had the same situation Saturday. Me and my son had one gobbling good at 6:15am across a ridge from our setup. He would answer every call. Double and triple gobbling. At fly down he came down the ridge and was closing the distance, then things got quiet. the next thing we know he has cut around the ridge and is headed away from us. We got up and hoofed it up the ridge where he was to see where he was headed. Just as we got on top, he gobbled and was on the next ridge over with the dreaded live hens. He would still gobble to my calls but the hens took him on over the top. This is the third time I have heard gobblers and hens in the same spot on the same ridge. It's a steep power line ridge that will be a tough climb. Like you, I can't wait to get after him on our next hunt. Good Luck and hope you get 'em.
