WE DID IT!!!...Well sorta.... Nephew & I went out with Video.....at 5:45am had a bird gobble at me putting shells in the 835....setup in darkness without flash lights......6:15 the woodlot erupted in gobbles....5 birds in our patch of woods....4 in another....enter the hens....calling form the roost...4 of them....I ticked them off while really firing the gobblers up.....gobblers where everywhere... one sounded off 75yds from the set up........the hens flew down & the closest gobbler pitched off to them..then the others followed.........we got lots of audio of the gobblers...plus 3 on film.. one strutting & 2 walking around......One of these birds apears to be HUGE in body & a beard almost of the ground...WOW!!!!.....the hes split...2 went away with toms in tow...2 stayed close...I tried to fire up the ole girls again that took the toms but I only called in the 2 that where hanging close...........one walked up on me while I was attempting to move..caught me in open standing....she came up to about 10yds & never spooked........We chased those thiefing hens...& lost them when they crossed a field at 9:45am...we called it a day.......we have good Video & had a great time to boot.........week one down!! |
