My father-in-law and I had another great hunt this past week in Fluvanna.We hunted the 15th,16th,17th.The birds were very vocal from around 6:00 to 7:00 each morning.Each day we either heard,worked or saw birds.Monday was my best day with a 3 year old on the ground at 6:40!I brought 2 identical birds in off the roost to within 45 yards.With all the gobbling they were doing a hen came in from behind me and started some sexy yelping.That's all the coaxing they needed and I took the lead bird at 20 yards.He was a nice bird @ 19lbs,9" beard & 3/4" spurs.My NJ permit starts the 22nd but I'm already dreaming of spring in Va. next April... |
