What a year! Three trophy birds in 4 hunts, here's the kicker, I could of done it in 3, but couldn't get a clear shot at a big tom on opening day.

After screwing up a morning setup I started covering ground. At 1045 I decided to try one last spot. I let out some yelps and got a gobble. I called about 5 minutes later and he gobbled back at half the distance. I waited another 5 minutes, called and it gobbled only 50 yds away. I could hear it walking, it sounded like a herd of buffalo instead of a turkey. The next thing I knew is there are heads bobbing everywhere, gobbler heads and hen heads. There were about 10 of em in all. I saw a gobbler fanned out about 20 yds away, it had a full tail, so I put the bead on him. I had to shoot left handed, but at 20 yds that didn't matter. When I shot turkeys went running a flying everywhere. One came running right at me and got airborne no more than 5 yards from me. I actually ducked. One went running in circles around the downed tom. Others were zig-zagging in every direction and putting. It was like I shot a cloud of crack out of my gun instead of pellets.
This sure was a great Virginia season. I'm tagged out and the season isn't over for weeks, but I'm not complaining. Taking 3 trophy toms in 4 hunts in this hard hunted area will be something I'll think about every spring to the day I die.....Besides, in a little more than a week I'll be in Pennsylvania chasing mountain birds........
Good luck to everyone!!!!!!

Wow. Congratulations! I'll be in PA for a weekend or two myself! Good luck and continued success! You are well on your way to a banner spring.

It's a great feeling isn't it. Congratulations!! One thing you may do is to take a kid or other less experenced person the rest of the season. The feeling will be greater than the one you have now. I did it last year, took the video camera along and got some great footage of turkeys and other wildlife. Liked it so much that this year I will take someone whenever I can and go by myself when no one can go. Works great. I've got two already for myself and one for my dad and one(miss ha! ha!) for my brother in-law. Was planning on taking my wife tomorrow (all kids gone for sleepover) for her first turkey hunt but she now has to work, oh well we will do it again another time. Good luck in PA.

hnt4bucks,
I'd love to take others out, but I can't take them to my club lease due to a no guest policy during Spring Gobbler season. I won't go on public land anymore either. I had a guy stalk me at Chickahominy WMA about 10 years ago. I had to jump up and start yelling at him. I haven't hunted public land in Eastern Va since. Anyway, I would like to take folks, but I don't have anywhere to take them. If you know of anyone who has a place to hunt and needs a caller let me know.
