Worked a hot bird this AM until 10 AM. He heard me walking and came across the hollow to me early while I was trying to circle above him to set up initially. I was bird-dogged for over and hour, but enjoyed the gobbling, strutting show. Unfortunately the hens eventually came in to him. Finally he went behind the ridge and I circled above him, and was set up beautifully. I called and the bird rattled the woods only 70 yards below. 1 minute later he stirred my soul from just about 35-yards under the hill. I could hear him walking, spitting and drumming. I slipped the safety off.....THEN.....out walked the 2 ladies right in my lap at 12 steps. Hen #1 looked me over and decided I was an ugly looking stump as she fed on. Hen #2 looked me up and down and decided I was no stump...no stump indeed...more like a boogerman...she walked away clucking, then putting....SHOW OVER. Try him again bright and early in the AM. |

TP, No offense taken....you just didn't sound and look sweet enough. :o) Freddy and I are hunting this year with a blind and it has made a world of difference...that helps tremendously when you need to make little moves or adjust your gun. Amy |
