Hey folks............as Will Primos said "Roosted Ain't Roasted"..............BUT..... God above smiled down again.....there were 5 gobblers roosted together not 2 as I thought.....was in the woods at 5:30am... belly crawled the last 25yds to the tree I knew I had to get to......heard 7 birds this morning ...these five were really wound up all within 50yds of each other.......at 6:20 I tree yelped.....SILENCE.....I clucked & then later did the ole flydown cackle....one bird gobbled......6:30 some soft stuff then cutt semi hard......the 6th bird from the other direction answered & started to me.......I heard the birds hit the ground at 6:30 with hens yelping with them......at 6:40 I hear crunh crunch in the leaves......I see head then bird struttung to me....struuting & in quiet running.....I let him get in a opening at about 30yd......I fianlly see his beard.........I thougth WOW!....can u say Paint Brush!.....I get down in the gun & put the scope on him & squeeze......BOOM!!!!!!.....bird down....Nitro shells are the only thing I will ever use again.........He is my best bird to date......23.5lb.......10.5" beard......1.25" spurs....(will recheck all measurements later)...I think he may be the king of the hill around these parts.........I prayed & tagged the bird & headed to the house 250 yds away..... this am God smiled on me again....& someone tell ole Will if ya seem him....sometimes Roosted IS Roasted..........thanks for sharing my hunt guys!....god Bless

BTW, what are the rules on entering bronze /tame turkeys? As a non-participant you boys/ladies may need a good arbitrator or judge in this thing before it is over...hahhah.

Itook my biggest bird same way ... was playing basketball w/ my boys when off down the swamp i heard a faint gobble so i told the boys to take a break.I slipped down off the end of our pasture and down to the swamp edge a total of 100yds from my back. There i cut lose w/ some cuts and yelps and he gobbleed w/ all his heart and keept gobbling iwas nearly 5;30 so i ran back to the barn got my hen wing decoys and blind, went back down there and waited awhile no gobble so just before dark i cut real hard to him and he tripple gobbled [lonely bird]i did a fly up cakle and bet the wing around three times each time i did he sounded off,a few minutes later i heard him fly up.I walked across the swamp about 100yds to where a old hog penn fence came to a point in the woodsi set my decoys in the pen and i set up on the point of the pen i put my homemade blind up,just a piece off burlap and dowel rods.I hunt with with my bow so i need a hide to draw the bow from behind.Next moring i was greated w/ pouring rain oh well i know where he is ,no sooner had it got light than an owl hooted and he gobbled.I waited 30min and the did some soft yelps and then did a fly down he went off gobbling at every little peep i made i tried to sound like more than one hen. Then rain lots of rain pouring rain. When it would slack up i would call and he would sound off this went onm for almost two hours.Iwas soaked and redy to give up when i finaly had to stand up or lose a leg, after a good streach i hit my slate call hard and he gobbled from about 40 yds away i hit the dirt got the bow up and pointed in the right direction.A second later his head popped up over the rise and he looked at the hens on the other side of the fence and started to walk right down the fence line looking for a break [i love it when a plan comes together]one look at the big swinging beard and i knew i had a good bird he keep comeing un til at nine yards i figured i better shoot the big mech broadhead hit him dead on in the chest just below the where the beard comes out down he went.20lbs 3ozs 11inch beard spurs just over an inch beautiful fan once i got it dried out.I realy enjoyed that 200yd walk home.
