Hey guys... Came home empty handed on Saturday, but had a great time and was really proud of my uncle killing a nice bird (19.25 lbs, 9.5 beard, 3/4 in. spurs). Heard seven birds total throughout the morning, just wasnt able to get around them or get them to come in. That got me thinking that I need to at least try to roost the birds the night before the hunt. I've known people that used the owl call to roost them and it seemed to be successful. Do you guys have any other techniques to get the birds to gobble when they go up? (shock gobble calls, etc...)

Sometimes they will gobble on their own, but the owl call has worked the best for me. Just be careful not to get too close. There are other calls out there that will work, you will just have to experiment and see what works best for you in your area.

Mitch... Hody's right, the owl call seems to work best. I love to roost birds in the afternoon and have a lot of success with it. One of the best techniques for hunting gobblers with hens is roosting them the evening before and slipping in tight the next morning. Amy and I proved that on Saturday by slipping in between a group of gobblers and about 20 hens and tagging a nice longbeard after roosting them Friday afternoon. I roosted a pair of gobblers Sunday PM and we slipped in to a prefered travel route above them and they came right to our calling. See Amy's post to see how that unfolded... ;o)

Good luck...

Thanks guys... feel free to give more insight if you have any. I'm willing to listen and learn... I've hunted turkeys for about 4 years, but I'm still learning every time I go out.
