New turkey hunter question. I know that If somebody walks into your set you should call out to them and let them know you are there. What do you when You walk into somebody's set and they call out to you. Do you just keep walking through?? Or do you backtrack and bypass them? I'll be hunting public lands in No Va and the odds of this happening are probably pretty good I would think. What's the courteous thing to do?

I think I would let them know I heard them. I would then turn and choose a different location. I think that if another hunter is already there that it is his spot. I don't usally get upset about this on public land but on private property it steams me a bit because they are ussally trespassing. I think you will be alright. Have fun and good luck.

I walked into someone last year... he yelled out and I waved, mouthed the words sorry, and headed in the complete other direction. I spoke with the hunter later and I know I said sorry 10 times. It's bound to happen on public land. Only think that gets me is when another does it on purpose... i.e.. they hear you calling and the gobbler a gobbling and they come on in.

p.s. that day i walked upon the other hunter.... i ended up taking a gobbler, good thing i went the other way :)

If I am on public areas I usually ask them where they want me to go if I get in their way so you do not mess up a working bird for them. If they are on private land the discussions can get a bit more interesting.
