Hi guys, I'm a transplanted Pa (Chester Co and Bradford Co) hunter who lives in Prince William Co.
I've been looking at the map and see the G Richard Thompson WMA not far west of me, how is it for turkey? Are there any other public areas in the area I should look into?
I've driven through the George Washington National Forest in the mountains. Looks like great country but so big as to be hard to know where to hunt and might draw a lot of other hunters. Is that a good area too?
What intel can you share?
Thanks, hunt safe too.

I've only deer hunted at GR Thompson, so I can't give you any real practical advice. I've seen a few turkey's furing the fall, so they are there. You may want to try accessing from the parking lots along the top of the ridge instead of down near the lake. You'll probably run into a little less competition.

You will indeed run into less competition up top because there aren't any turkeys there. I spend a great deal of time hunting the top for squirrels and have never seen any turkeys. However, I have seen turkeys down the bottom at the parking lot closest to I-66. It is pretty thick in there but the birds are there. I have heard that if follow the top road down the fire path past the towers there are birds in there also, but up by the radio tower will leave you disappointed. Look into Phelps south of Warrenton there are birds there, but heavy pressure.

Thanks guys for the advice I'll look into Phelps.
How about the Washington National Forest? Is it worth the drive?
How do you register for the forum I don't see a link for that?
