Saw a brood of wood duck chicks come out of the tree last week in central Alabama, and wathced the hen lead them across the road to a pond . Seemed really really early for chicks to be hatching, even farthr south. A year ago I saw a brood of woodcock in late MArch.

Haven't seen any babies yet, but there are a pair of mallards and a pair of Canadas nesting on my pond right now. Come to think of it, even our Peking ducks (domesticated) are nesting. Must be that time of year...

I just read where somebody in Tenn was clearing a field and found a turkey nest with 16 eggs in it....go figure.
