I have a Baretta O/U sporting clays gun that I use for almost everything, but have never hunted Turkey. This year, I am going to give spring turkey hunting a shot and don't want to buy another gun. It has 28" barrels and I have an H.S. Strut "Undertaker" choke for it. What do you guys think of this set-up? Does anybody else use an O/U for Turkey? What shot size and shells do you recommend?

There was an article in last months American Hunter (nra magazine) about using the O/U for turkey hunting. Very good article and it had Trebarks Jim Cromley in it. He uses a Traditions O/U if I remember correctly. I really like the idea of the O/U for turkey hunting. I like that you can have a super tight pattern in one barrel (like your undertaker choke) and then have a more open pattern in the other barrel for close up shots if need be. I use #5 shot for my setup because my gun prefers it. Your going to have to try several differn't shot sizes and brands though to get your best pattern. Every gun & choke prefers one brand or another. Federal, Winchester & Remington all make very good turkey loads. Wally world carries them for about $6.99 a box (just bought a box of 3" #5's Federal Grand Slam about 1/2 hour ago) Good luck this Spring. Scott
