Mr. LB, My Tru Glo on a Rem. super mag. prefers #5's in 3.5 inch. This is followed by #6's then the #4's. Winchester HV's of course! |

Mr. Longbeard, I saw your post on another forum. I have a Tru Glo tube for my 870. Previously I used a Rem Super Full. With the Rem Super Full, Federal Premium 2oz #6 worked best in my gun. When I swithed to the Tru Glo, I found that the Winchester HV (1 3/4 oz) loads worked best in all shot sizes. When you say you tried shells from all manufactures, where you referring to 3" 2oz loads, or the 1 3/4 oz high energy or high velocity loads? The Tru Glo MUCH preferred the Winchester 1 3/4 oz loads over all other 2oz. loads, Winchester 2 oz. loads included. As far as shot size goes, it performed best with 4's and 5's, although it still shot the HV 6's better than my Rem Super Full did with the 2oz Federals. However, to optimize performance with #6's, I believe you would be better off going with a tighter constriction. If your gun didn't like the 1 3/4 Winchester 5's, I'd try the 1 3/4 Winchester #4's. If you have already tried the Winchester 1 3/4 oz. loads then I really don't know which way you should go. The Winchester 1 3/4 oz loads really were a step above all other loads in my gun with the Tru Glo. Good Luck to you, Old Dominion Tom |

50cal... I'm using the StarDot in a 500 and mine likes the 3" Federal Premium's in #5shot. Sorry I can't help you with the 835, Scott |

50cal, I use the Star Dot in my 835 I pulled my test pattern targets from last year & did some math for ya. The Star Dot is 27.4% better than the stock Ulti Full choke. Some results are below: All Below were shot with a 12” Quaker Boy target @ 40yds (range finder was used) from a bench using sand bags with a 2.5x scope Stock Choke (.695) with Winchester HV 2oz #5’s 106 Hits Total 9 Hits Head & Neck Star Dot (.670) with Winchester HV 2oz #5’s 135 Hits Total 13 Hits Head & Neck Star Dot (.670) with Nitro 521’s 2oz 4x5x7.5’s 218 Hits Total 25 Hits Head & neck Star Dot (.670) with Nitro 501B’s 2 5/8oz 4x5x7.5’s 281 Hits Total 46 Hits Head & Neck I hope this info is useful to ya. Good luck with ur gun & if u don’t get what u want from the Star Dot with standard production loads try some custom Nitros. I LOVE em’ Their site is www.nitrocompany.com Max |

I have been using the Winchester High Velocity loads for two years now myself, particulary the #5's. I should try out the #4 load just to see how it patterns as well, but with that much more shot in the #5 load, I think I already know which one would be best!! |
