Hello everyone, got a topo map of Jefferson National Forest. A few days ago I received this map of the Clinch Ranger District, there are lot of the roads that has gate symbols across them,is these roads close at all times or are they open through the hunting seasons. Trying to pick some places to hunt, know very little about the State of Virginia. I hunted a little back in the fall season and could never get up on any turkey. I mostly hunted around John W.Flanagan area and did not have any success at all. Trying to pick some other areas any help would be appreicated. By the way I live in KY. All and any help would be grateful appreciated. Thanks.

As far as the gates, they are normally closed, but sometimes they open them for a season. Your best bet is to call the Ranger district and inquire which ones are open,if any and then go from there.

John the good thing about those gates is a lot of guys don't want to walk too far, so if you walk in a mile or more you will have a little better hunting for yourself.

Gates are generally open during "hunting" season but for some reason turkey hunting isn't considered "hunting" season so they are closed. But as Cliff said, the energetic hunter reaps the benefits.
