Hey all,
I just found this board this morning. Looks like a great place.
I'm from the southwestern part of the state in a town named Clintwood.
I do most of my turkey hunting here in Dickenson Co., but occasionally hunt the national forest lands in Wise and Scott Co.

Hey everybody, if you're looking for great hunting, Ken will be your man!! I firmly believe that the coalfield counties of Buchanan and Dickenson probably have more birds than anywhere else. Heck, with the exception of reclaimed mine land, they are almost completely wooded, most of it mature. If every bird that was killed in southwest Virginia was checked in, I think we would have actual numbers to back my position. Most of the kills go from the "hill behind the house" to the freezer or pot in less than an hour. Sad but true.

I'm also new to the board. This is going to be my first year turkey hunting and I wanted to get an idea of a good place to hunt near Prince William County. My buddy and I grouse and squirrel hunt at Thompsons WMA in Faquier county, but I have no idea how the turkey are there. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
As to being dry, well it was bad here a few days ago. All the rivers in my county have gone down to the "high" mark.
We do seem to be blessed with birds here. As for the poaching thing, well, it ain't as bad as it used to be that's for sure.
