I do all of my hunting in NC. NC has some steep hills and ridges, but not where I do most of my turkey hunting. I've never hunted in VA, but I'm aware the ridges are a little more pronounced in areas. My question is this....When I read reply's about "seeing sign on the south facing ridge" or "look for the south facing ridge", what does this translate into as far as "better turkey hunting areas" are concerned. Does is have something to do with vegetation/food growing on the south side? Amount of sun light a ridge gets before a certain time? Must be something to the north, south, east, west facing ridges, so I'd love to learn a little about ridge hunting if I ever encounter it. No turkey knowledge is too much ya know. Full Fan |

Hey Full Fan... Your post pretty much sums it up... The south facing ridges/mountain sides get more sun than north facing and because of that they usually provide better habitat (open hardwoods/greenup faster/etc.). A lot of times the north facing ridges will have trees/vegatation that are usually a little thicker than the south side. |
