Do any of you gentleman plan on taking a son, grandson or youngster turkey hunting this season?
I plan on taking(weather permitting)my grandson Alex who is 6 1/2 yrs. old. He's been practicing with a push pull call and is pretty good. We've worked on a routine on sitting still and whispering when we want to talk. I've got him all the warm camo and a turkey seat with cushion to sit comfortable. We're going to hunt from a ground blind I made earlier on a small priviate farm I've had leased for about ten years. All I would like, is to see Alex call one in and watch it strut and gobble. Harvesting the gobbler would be optional.
The only problem I foresee is getting him up so early in the morning.

hoping to take my nephew, Derek, out this spring. He went out for the first time this fall and my Dad and took a hen with Derek there. He loved every second of it :)

I will be taking my 8 year old daughter. She killed a nice jake in the fall with help from me. I need to get her a smaller shotgun as mine has quite a kick maybe a 20 gauge remington or something. She helped me scout some and the little thing was finding sign that I over looked. She has it bad like her dad. Even if we do not see one it still will be exciting to hear one and see her face. Man I love it. Jon

My eleven year old is welcome to go with me and be the shooter any time he pleases. My goal for the season is to get him an opportunity. No matter what I get, if anything, if I don't get him a legitimate opportunity, it will be a long year for me.

I was very pleased to have called to the gun both my sons first turkeys. An added bonus was using a terripan shell slate call I made myself. This happened spring season last year in Green Co. Ky. It has really been great to have been there on their first deer and turkey hunts. Now they can start calling ther own birds.

Well, I can tell you the truth, There is nothing better than taking your child hunting. Last year was a high for me. I took my daughter and Son (different times) and the lord blessed us with some awesome hunts.

One thing, I plan this year (which I did a little of but not the best) I plan on letting them call. They both called a little on the turkeys last year, but not its time to step up the training.

COACH---
Will you be hanging around West Augusta(Carpenters store) during the first week of the season? I will be in town from Apr. 11-18.
We had talked last year before the season about comparing notes, but I never made it down. Will definately be there this year. Would love to meet up in the afternoons and see what other hunters are experiencing. I drive a green Dodge Dakota with NWTF sticker in back window and turkey track.

right now this year is very messed up. Beleive it or not I don't have everything planned out. Ususally my stuff is in the corner ready to be loaded by now.

I want to be up a couple of days. I'm Just not sure which ones. I too would like to meet as you and others that visit the board. Also, some time just a little information can go a long waym, with helping you find them. I saw a little scrathing high or low, and such. The aera is just so big, its hard to find them some times.

I am also planning a later hunt this year, like around 28th. The last two years its has snowed on us the first couple of days. I thought just for fun I'd make it later. I was told gobbling peaks again around that time. what do think?

Either way I almost every afternoon stop in around 1:00 or so at the store. I'm in a RED s10 (two wheel drive) with turkey tracks on the back window. I hope we get together. As it gets closer, lets work something out.

I have four children they all want to go turkey hunting,i take them one at a time none of them have shot at a bird yet.The oldest who just turned 13 is only know getting used to the recoil of his 20ga.pipe he has even hit afew skeet w/ it this winter. This might be his year. The other three are 10 9 and 5 the last being a little girl that would follow me thru the thickest woods around to get to go.With kids i have leared that when you take them you have to be there for them ,if your chasing that big four year old tom dont take a young child. While they are young i take them for the sole purpose of teaching them woodsmanship and safty and basic huntting skills. Then i put them on to game in a sure spot for action i wont them to see lots of wildlife and the game we are hunting, hopefully they will fall in love w/ it just as i did when i was a boy following my Dad around.I also have two boys in my scout troop begging me to take them,i may not get to fill a single tag this year[yeah right].Be safe and good hunting.
