Vaturkey Posters/Lurkers : bear with me here, this is not intended to be heavy handed or make anybody do something they do not want to participate in, or make any one feel unwanted or out of step if they choose not to participate ...and I hope Freddy will let this message stay up here for a while as a favor to me, as he will be inclinedto delete it. A few years ago I got acquainted with a young man who loved turkey hunting, was very very good at it, and also knew a lot about computers and information systems. A few of his friends suggestd(really probably talked him in to) starting a message board for turkey hunters. A real turkey hunters board. Not a lonely hearts/birthday club/ nut-case poster
board; but one for true turkey hunters who hopefully would share good information and advice and some stories about turkey hunting. Preferably a board that did not hit every poster with pop-up ads and have a posting page so covered with bought ads by sponsors that a reader could not wade through it all to get to the board. SO the youngster spent his own money to set up a
system that would accomplish these things, and be FUN and not a JOB and one that he could handle in his spare time(not that he had much to start with). Well the board has been very succesful. Some might say wildly succesful.
The volume on the board is really beyond what the young man anticipated and , while he isn't whining about it or anythng, the expenses and
the work to keep it up has been more than he anticpated. ANd I am sure the expense
of improving and maintaining it has been more than he would like to spend out of his own pocket
frankly. My friend says some of his posters have been sending him ,unsoloicited, a little money gift from time to time to help pay the expenses. He will just get an envelope with a $20 bill in it or something and a note that says "use this for the board" or "use this for the cookout, I cannot come but want everybody
to have a good time". So some of the Vaturkey readers are already on the same page I am on. I wonder if any of you have ever thought about how much work it takes to keep up a board like this or how much information or good laughs you have received from this source and if you might ought to consider doing something nice in the way of a token cash gift for this friend of yours too? I agree GN I work in the same field and it takes a lot of work to keep up with the web material and all the stuff that comes with it. I have known Mr. McGuire for most of my life as we had grade school together. I remember when he would talk about hunting on the bus as teenagers. He truly has exceled to a higher calling. I thank him for the board and the web site with all the info and all the new friends that we all have made. What he has done here has helped change a lot of minds of people who did not understand a call of a tactic. He has opened doors for a whole new force of turkey hunters and good people. This is what life is all about shoot for your dreams and let nothing stand in your way. I give him a standing ovation, even if he never let me play with those plastic dinosaurs(HaHaHa) :) Jon

I certainly think it wouldn't hurt each of us to chip in a little bit of our own money. This is a valuable site, and like ya'll I appreciate what Freddy is doing. I run a few websites myself, and they don't get this kind of traffic and I know how much work I do.

Great Post GN!!! I totally agree. Freddy is one heck of a guy and really puts some hours in for the turkey, not even counting the work he does on this great site. I have learned so much in the year that I have been here! Turkey hunting would not be the same, to me, if it were not for this site and Freddy. Scott

Well said GN
Honest and up-front.
Such a small request for such a great forum.
A friendly donation to help Vaturkey wouldn't break any of us up.

Glad to see most of the guys on here are in favor of this. This is a good board and WE (The regular posters) want to keep it that way. Thanks again Freddy and everyone else that makes this board what it is.

Great idea GN. I don't have any experience with web sites but I do my own PC work and can imagine how much time and effort is spent keeping up with this site. Thanks again Freddy for providing a great place for a great group of hunters to share and learn.

This is your conscience calling.I have bumped this up here because I got Freddy to tell me how many people (not by name)had contributed any thing to the board and was sort of apppalled at the apparent lack of support from a lot of our posters. Numerically, not many of us are giving Freddy a hand here. Would just urge you to consider a donation. Anything helps and you spend $5 to see a movie that is awful.
