Guys: What's your favorite way to turkey hunt? Do you prefer hunting with a buddy or alone? and Why?

I usually hunt alone. I do very much enjoy the solitude and the one on one aspect of "me against the bird."

I have a 9-year old son though who I take whenever possible now. I am enjoying the time together (father and son) more than I could have imagined. To relive the thrill of a young hunter's first trips afield is truly beyond description. It has taken me back to my first hunts and recollection of how exciting they were.

I've also made a point to share more hunts with my Dad these days, and that's been very rewarding.

Hunting with a bud gets the thumbs up here. Especially when it's one that knows you and the two of you have the chemistry to know what the other is thinking. When we gang up it truly doesn't matter who the trigger man is. It's team sport. Also love those hunts with those who have never killed birds. One of my most memorable mornings was an opening day several years ago with a college buddy from Richmond. It was a magical morning as we heard 10 to 15 birds and he got his first turkey. He still says we have the best turkey hunting in the state.

Therre is proably no question I will kill more birds hunting by myself. I sort of learned thisstuff the hard way, by myself. I do hunt a few times each year with a nephew, son or friend and with a few old friends for a weekend camping trip or something. Moving two people through the woods can dramatically reduce the "close-in" factor which I use in my style of hunting by myself ... I hunt differently with two, and am not as aggressive in approach before calling. Also, frankly, myfriends tell methey "do not want it as bad" as me, so most of them are not willing to climb back up 1500 vertical feet at 11:30 am"just because you thought you heard one gobble".

I like to hunt by myself most of the time, but I also like to take out guys that have not killed a bird, or friends that are not good callers. GN is correct in the fact that hunting alone allows you to hunt like you want to, and hunting with a friend is a different approach. Besides most guys that know me wont go with me cause I walk and cover a lot of territory and they hate walking that much. It is noce to switch up once in a while and hunt with a partner though, especially on a tough bird that can be taken with a tandem hunt.

That is a tough one. I enjoy being by myself the most, but then again time spent with fellow turkey hunters is something I cherrish. I really enjoy hunting with people I like, but going in opposite directions. :) Although now I would rather take someone that is new to hunting about as much as I like going myself.

I love going out in the woods by myself.... but I too also enjoy the company of friends and family in the wooods. I also hunt differntly when with someone else, the other people i hunt with seem not to enjoy the miles i put on when by myself. I usally hunt several times with my dad every year and about five times with another buddy or two. That really lets me enjoy my friends but also lets me enjoy my alone time also.

I would like to hunt with other people but i only have one friend and i really dont like to hunt with him. He dosent like to do much work for his birds. He would much rather me do all the scouting and turn him on to what i find....

I prefer to hunt with a buddy. It brings so much more to the hunt for me. Harvesting bird while in the company of a good friend just elevates the success to a new level. Unfortunately, I usually hunt alone due to conflicting schedules. For me, given the choice, I hunt with a partner.

I like to hunt alone, but as long as my eleven year old wants to go, I will gladly use the buddy system.

I enjoy the time that I get to hunt by myself but I also look forward to hunts with my friends and family. Like GN, there is no question that I hunt differently when I'm with someone. Last spring in VA I hunted 30 days and 15 of those I hunted with someone... I split it perfectly... :)
