Looked out the window and what did I see? About 5 bearded birds and 5 hens running themselves crazy. Hard to get a definate count as they just won't stand still. The jakes are in half strut and posturing each other. The weird think is they have picked out one hen and are running her ragged. My little flock of 2 jakes and 6 hens that stays here is starting to be dynamic as it's numbers and members are changing daily. By the way, it's about 20 degrees with 15 mph wind.

You should get a digital camera. We would ALL love that!

You're throwing me off there GN, I live in the Mudfork area of Tazewell County if that helps any. Piedmont Gobbler, I've got one. Well, it's not digital but I've got a game camera and a scanner. My best turkey shot was about a month ago when I got 12 birds in one picture. I would consider posting some shots if someone would coach me a little on what I need to do to get them on here. I'll have to keep security in mind, I want to keep my camera!

Dang! It worked! Hope you guys like it. It was taken on a snowy morning about 2 months ago on my Biologic food plot. Actually saw this flock behind the house about 45 mins. after this picture was taken. If anybody wants to see more say something, otherwise I don't want to be cluttering up the site.

Boys, I have no idea where this Mudfork is, or who Mighty Casey is..was just kidding about right and left fork...every county in our part of the world sems to have a mud fork or a muddy fork. I do have a sort- of- a -half-an-invitation to hunt in Tazewell County though.

GN: I thought you may have been kidding, but didn't want to assume to much so I tried to take the safe route on my reply. I'm not selfish. I rarely hunt these birds around the house as I am blessed with lots of areas to hunt. Plus the wife gets a little attached after watching them from robin size to maturity. She does understand hunting though. Heck, her mom has killed two turkeys with her bow! BUT, I try to never say no to someone who has never killed a turkey or has a kid who has passed his small game tests and is ready for something bigger. Also welcome folks ready to try the bowhunting challenge for turkeys. I want to keep my birds sustaining but also want the maximum enjoyment from them, and for me that is the excitement of sharing with first timers. We all know firsts are special and I am honored when they can say their first was here.

MF- Good for you...great attitude to have for the "house" covey. You think the turkeys utilize the biologic stuff..I thought it was a deer food plot...?

I mixed a little rye and oats with the Biologic Full Draw with good results. However, I'd bet that I lost over 50% of the seed to the birds before germination. The birds did eat some of the Biologic, but they love the oats and rye grass.

Piedmont, where is you home turf. I regularly hunt southern Bedford county and it is much different from my mountain home. First; It's usually 3 weeks ahead in foliage. Second; I'm used to having free roam of the whole forest. Down there it seems that, even though I hunt a 1300 acre farm, the birds are always across the fence. If you haven't hunted national forest you need to go. You always run out of time or food before you run out of land. Third; THE TICKS, tried to crawl through a field to set up and ended up a quart low.

Hey Mud,

I answered your post regarding the Virginia Power land. I am from Haymarket, Va. Prince William county. I hunt the forest in the Dry River District about 2 hours from here outside of Broadway. I also have private land in Augusta County near Greenville I can hunt but that is another 50 minutes added to my 2 hour drive. Imagine the time I have to get up in the morning to get there. Anyway, drop me an email we can chat.
