Gents
I've read a few post that mentioned mountain bikes. Well let me tell you about an old cogger that took his son's mtn. bike to the turkey woods to scout.
The dirt road was closed and it was about 2mi from where I park my truck to the top of the mountain, no big deal! So off I go. Now I haven't ridden a bike since I was in my teens, 35yrs ago.
Things were going good for about 1/2mi, thats when I knew I needed to give the bike a break and so I pushed the rest of the way.
I finally got to the top after about an hours worth of pushing. The trail went to the left up hill at a fairly steep grade. I knew I had it made because the bike was fresh for the start with many gears to chose from.
After going the first 100yds and through 15-20 different gears, it was time to freshen-up the bike again. I finally reached the top after another hours worth of pushing. Now...it was my turn to ride out the ridge, and ride I did. After scouting for about 1 1/2 hours(saw nor heard anything) it was time to try and get back to the safety of my truck.
Now, could someone tell me, who's butt is made to fit those skinny little seats are they just for looks or what! I've set on a rail fence more comfortable. And those little baskets on the pedals that you're suppose to put your feet in, try'm with boots on, once you get'm in you sure can't get'm out.
Well down and out I came..."FAST", brakes screaming, boots hung in pedal baskets, swapping gears and bouncing all over the place.
It took me approximately 2 1/2 hours to get to the top, and 15min to get back to my truck and loaded. That was my first and last time out with the mtn. bike. Took a week before I could get over all the aches, butt pains and feel my legs. So any turkey hunters that want to ride a bike back in the turkey woods, good luck and great hunting.

GS the pain goes away after you ride a bit and get used to the seat. Look at the bright side if you would have walked the whole way it would have taken you twice as long. Like I said in my story I catch a lot of grief when I use mine, but it sure gets you where you need to go in a hurry, and it is fairly quiet. I still prefer to walk but when on public land it gets you back and away from the crowd.

LOL tooo funny Gobblestopper!! The seats do take some time to get used to. I'm lucky... I get to ride a Mountain Bike for a living... well when the weather is nice anyway.. I put on over 1400 miles last year just at work. My legs and sitting area feels for ya'... when I first got the bike I had to go to a Police Mountain Bike Academy (five days long) averaged about 20 - 25 miles a day. I couldn't walk for a week.

You all be careful out there.

GN did he get the bird? That is a strange way to fill a tag if so.

I do not know if he got that one, but he got a lot more than his share over his lifetime, hunting them the right way. This fella(who I think was named Glen Watson) was sort of crippled where he could not walk long or well in the mountains, but he could ride a bike without pain...so he was using a bike years before the mountain bikes appeared..just an old "paper boy" bike...he hunted every day and was(is) a legend in the area around tellico plains tenn.

Hilarious gobb!! I've always wanted to use a mtn bike, but I can see myself having similar luck.
