Hi JR, Welcome to the forum. I would recommend any of the Truth Series Videos from Primos. Also, I think that there are several videos now titled something like "Introduction to Turkey Hunting" or "Turkey School", and they should be good. Also, you have found a good place to ask questions here. Just fire away and there are many good turkey hunters here that will answer your questions. Good luck!

JR,

Our new "True Art Instructional Turkey Calling Video" has been roundly welcomed. You could call it a video-seminar (1 1/2 hours) that covers:
Step-by-step demonstration of 22 calls of the wild turkey, using 8 different callers, applying the calls and their meanings in 12 different hunting situations.
Author John McDaniel says "True Art" video achieves "a level of understanding of calls and their meanings that leaves many of us who are avid and experienced in awe." The release of this video follows 45 years turkey hunting.

Thought you'd like to know about it. Come and see at http://www.turkeycallers.com .

Thanks,

Kenny Morgan

For videos, I my opinion, if you have seen one, you have seen them all.

the problem with the videos are they show the turkeys that are coming in and show very little of the calling and moving around. (also most seem to be filmed on turkeys that receive little hunting pressure) So when you watch one, it seems you hear the same advice on them all.I like to watch them just to listen to some of the calls the hunter makes. But as far as applying them to hunting situations I find it hard.

here is some advice (which is Free)
1) Get yourself a video or cassette tape and learn all the calls. (Learn what we humans think they meaning to) You don't have to be perfect just get the rhythm down.
2) This spring (strike up a conversation with the gobbler) use the calls you have learned to give the gobbler some kind of meaning) like I'm Mad, or I could care less who or where you are) I have seen so many hunters call at the bird the same way every time for every gobbler. they never take the time to check out how the gobbler is responding to them or the current situation.
3) Don't move (even wink when a gobbler is up close) and on the other hand the gobbler does not have Xray vision so move around a little if the gobbler wont come right in.

good luck,

if you listen to/watch enough of the videos, yu can rmemeber the parts where REAL hens are being filmed(one of the Primos videos a few years ago had about 10-12 minutes of pure hen and hen calling film)-this is the really valuble part of the ta;pes, I think. ....every year before the spring season I sort of keep these hen calling videos fast-forwarded to the same place so that I can listen and relisten to real hens calling (I also have one ofthe REAL TURKEY tapes from Lovett Williams in the truck)...I think getting the "turkey ear" and timing of cadence on real birds calling helps me a l ot to retune each year, so that I have the right calling cadence when the season opens. I think the cadence is motre important than the tone/pitch sometimes. Good luck.

I agree with Joe,Real turkey tapes from Lovett Williams are great!I started useing them about 15yrs ago and practice every spring with my calls and a little tape recorder just to get the cadence down.Do this with your locater calls to.You will have so much confidence this spring i guarantee it.Good luck,
