Guys,

Steve here. I'm looking into some new calls for this spring season. Can anyone give me a heads up as to any good calls. There are a ton out there, and without buying and trying everyone, I don't know whats as good as the next. I do a lot of shopping with Cabelas & Bass Pro Shops, so if they have the call, that would be great. To be honest, if it weren't for those two stores, I'd be a rich man right now!!!

What kind of call are you looking for? Friction, box, mouth, tube etc??? I'm sure with all these experienced turkey hunters they sure will give you some good advice. I got a new call for Christmas that I am really impressed with. It's a scratch box made by a Virginia boy named, Richard Shively. A really outstanding sounding call and SUPER LIGHT!! http://www.superyelper.com/

Cool... Get yourself a Primos Power Crystal. Sometimes, if you go to outdoor shows they will have calls out that you can sample and find what you like the best. I don't think you can go wrong with the Power Crystal though! ;o) I think the only way to find a mouth call is to buy them and try them. One suggestion to start with for that would be a Primos True Double. Good luck!

Sorry about that, I should have specified. I'm mostly interested in friction/slate and mouth calls, but any other good calls will definitely be taken into consideration. Thanks for the info...

I am a die hard MAD user. The Drury boys usually put out good stuff.

Knight is right about the personal preferance. You need to try a bunch of different brands of mouth calls to see what you like. One call I really like is the quaker boy easy yelper, it is a push pin call that has great sound. The power crystal is great too.

I agree with these guys, when it comes to mouth calls, you have to try a bunch of different ones to find out what works best for you. One call I have had good success with is the Lohman Hot 'N Single Cutt single reed. It's a single reed with 3 splits and is easy to use. Check out some of the Primos mouth calls too.

another suggestion for the mouth call is the Primos Raspy Double Hook & Clear Hook. I have a lot of trouble with mouth calls and these two calls work best for me... they have a palate plate to keep the call off of the roof of your mouth, also H.S. Strut is coming out with a mouth call that has a curved palate plate this spring.

Scott... a little trick with the mouth call is you can bend the frame on some models (Primos being one since they use an aluminum frame :) ). I always take my (aluminum) single frame calls and put a slight bend in the middle and then turn up the ends slightly. Be careful not to overbend as it will change the reed tension too much. This gives it a better position in my mouth and really works for me. Now, you have to make sure that the frame is aluminum, and not plastic like some models or they will snap! If you come to the NWTF meeting next week I'll show you...

GREAT!!! Thanks for the 411 guys! I'm going to check some of those mouth calls out ASAP. You can't really go wrong with them since they are 'fairly' inexpensive (at least compared to other types).
